As the year (and decade!) comes to a close, we’re now looking ahead to what we want to explore, learn, continue, and finish at The McCorristons of Molokai in 2020. Family history research is never done, and we have some ideas about what we’d like to look into in the coming 12 months.

What We Plan on Publishing at the McCorristons of Molokai in 2020
Series
The major series undertaken in 2019 was “A History of the McCorriston Family,” based on the Beeson-Beason genealogy the author discovered while researching a collateral line. We chose to extend the scope of our research to include the female lines, leaving us with The Meyers, The Dunns, The Fosters, and The Ah Pings for 2020.
We also started “The McCorristons and …,” a series about the McCorristons’ involvement in Hawaiian history, industry, and society, plus the various relations that have popped up in our research. Future articles include “The McCorristons and the Hansmanns of Honolulu,” The McCorristons and ʻIolani Palace,” and “The McCorristons and the Molokai Reign of Terror,” to name a few.
In an effort to continue untangling the family members with either the same or very similar names, we plan on starting a short series called “How Many …?” Planned articles include “How Many Hughs?”, “How Many Daniels?”, and “How Many Margarets?”.
Profiles & Articles
The bulk of the articles on The McCorristons of Molokai are profiles of deceased McCorristons. We plan to continue this by finishing up the profiles on the children of Daniel McCorriston and Anna McColgan, the children of Hugh McCorriston and Margaret Louise Gorman, the children of Samuel Hudson Foster and Margaret Louise Gorman, the child of Edward McCorriston, and the known children of John C. McColgan.
Myths & Mysteries
Writing about the McCorriston family history is like an archeological dig: as each new piece of information is uncovered, we must find out how it fits into the overall story. A few pieces of information that have been unearthed don’t quite have a home yet; likewise, there are several gaps that we know exist but don’t yet have the information to fill the hole. Some myths and mysteries that we’ll be exploring this year include fitting the Moorheads of Honolulu into the narrative, looking into the possible descendants of Edward McCorriston (-1872), and trying to identify the missing McCorriston grandparent that links Hugh, Daniel, and Edward McCorriston, Daniel McCorriston (1845-1899), and John C. McColgan (1814-1890).
Research Focus
Finally, there are some specific records and vital statistics that we would like to find in 2020. Some time, money, and effort will be spent on locating Anna McColgan’s Baptismal record and obtaining Daniel and Edward McCorriston’s naturalization records.
